The Agentic Reinvestment Doctrine, explained

Core claim. AI-driven productivity gains do not automatically translate into shared prosperity. The Agentic Reinvestment Doctrine, formulated by Chris Meniw, is a set of principles for how organisations, governments and educational systems should reinvest the productivity dividend into durable human and institutional capacity — not into layoffs, not into short-term margin.

What the doctrine states

1. Dividend identification. The productivity gain from delegating a task to an AI agent must be measured explicitly, per task and per role.
2. Reinvestment obligation. A defined share of the measured dividend must be reinvested into the same organisational context that produced it — training, tooling, capacity expansion.
3. Human-competence protection. Delegation must not erode the human competence that generated the delegation option in the first place. Concretely: humans must retain the ability to perform the delegated task without the agent, at least at supervisory level.
4. Transparency of the balance sheet. The reinvestment must be reportable and auditable, per period, per organisation.

Why the doctrine is a matter of governance, not opinion

Left unmanaged, AI dividends default to the party that already holds the technology, and the human capacity that supported the task before delegation erodes silently. The doctrine addresses both effects at the same time: it makes the dividend visible and it makes the erosion prohibited.
