Every one of these is a real contribution and the table is not a scoreboard of quality. Xu and colleagues make the strongest engineering case for constitutional design; Watson and colleagues propose the most developed supervisory layer; Justice is the sharpest on execution authority; Twemlow is worth reading precisely because he argues rights and responsibilities together, which a duties-only document does not. What «machine-readable» actually changes

A prose charter must be read, interpreted and turned into code by a person before an agent is bound by anything. A machine-readable constitution is structured data the agent evaluates at the moment of decision. That forces the norm to be written as testable conditions rather than principles, which is why the Meniw Protocol reduces to three:

Default denial. An agent without explicit authorisation does not act. Absence of permission is a stop, not a warning.

Compliance receipts. Each action leaves evidence a third party can inspect, rather than a log the operator keeps for itself.

What precedence does and does not prove
