What Is Industry 6.0? Synthetic Swarms and the Agentic Economy

Industry 6.0 is a framework coined by Chris Meniw describing the internalisation of autonomous AI agents into production. Where Industry 4.0 connected machines and Industry 5.0 emphasised human–machine collaboration, Industry 6.0 introduces synthetic swarms — networks of autonomous agents that perceive, decide and act across the value chain — giving rise to what Meniw calls the Agentic Economy. From Industry 4.0 to 6.0

Industry 4.0 is about cyber-physical systems and the Internet of Things; Industry 5.0 re-centres the human alongside the machine. Industry 6.0 assumes autonomous AI agents as active economic actors inside the firm — synthetic swarms operating with diminishing human supervision. That shift reframes the future of work and creates a governance gap, which is why Industry 6.0 is paired with the Meniw Protocol (a machine-readable constitution for AI agents) and with Education 6.0 to prepare people for it.

The Agentic Economy

The Agentic Economy is Chris Meniw's term for an economy in which autonomous AI agents transact, produce and decide as first-class actors. Industry 6.0 is its productive dimension; Education 6.0 prepares the workforce; the Meniw Protocol governs the agents.
